Ravenna is famous worldwide for its ancient mosaics. Moreover, between the end of the 13th and the beginning of the 14th century, it has been the last refuge of Dante Alighieri, the father of the Italian language.
The city also hosts his tomb, a small corner of peace and respect in the medieval heart of the city, livened up by the whispers of many tourists that stop here everyday to pay homage to the Supreme Poet.
The tour DANTE IN RAVENNA is an opportunity to discover the events that characterised the last years of his life, his exile, death and the exciting and controversial dispute for his remains, as well as the various interventions of valorisation of the tomb over the centuries.
The tour will lead you to the Rasponi Crypt and the Roof Gardens of Palazzo della Provincia, the Basilica of San Francesco, which hosted the Poet’s funeral and the Zone of Silence, that still hosts his Tomb. The tour continues with a visit to the multi-functional space of Casa Dante and finishes at Museo Dante, historical museum of the city.
