From October 14, 2023, to January 14, 2024, as part of the 8th Biennial of Contemporary Mosaic, the works of LA MEMORIA FISICA DELLA MATERIA will be on display at MAR – Ravenna Art Museum.
Curated by Linda Kniffitz and Daniele Torcellini, the exhibition highlights the experimental practices of mosaic art in Ravenna, featuring a selection of artists from different generations. It aims to shed light on how a territory steeped in the historical legacy of its past has engaged with both the visual horizons of the Paleochristian and Byzantine eras, as well as the innovative impulses of contemporaneity.
Works by Paolo Racagni, Marco Santi, Valentino Montanari, Almuth Schöps, Felice Nittolo, Sergio Policicchio, Toyoharu Kii, Daniele Strada, Marco Bravura, Verdiano Marzi, Stefano Mazzotti, Takako Hirai, CaCO3 and Sara Vasini give the material presence of the tesserae the dominant role of the composition, in the analysis of a new level of space and freedom of sperimentation.
