As part of the 8th Biennial of Contemporary Mosaic, the Mar – Ravenna Art Museum presents BURRIRAVENNAORO, an important exhibition dedicated to Alberto Burri and curated by Bruno Corà.
This exhibition of Burri in Ravenna, hosted in the halls of the first and second floor of the museum from 14th October 2023 to 14th January 2024, traces the history of the intense relationship between Burri and Ravenna, started at the end of the ’80s.
In one of his last series – with various cycles of works inspired by the artistic history and culture of Ravenna – Burri represents and transforms through the contrast between black and gold, dark and light, the dialogue with the historical mosaics of Ravenna. A balance between spirituality and materiality, in a city where the past has progressively intertwined with the productive and industrial progress of the present.
In the frame of the Biennial of Contemporary Mosaic, Burri’s works and the exhibition BurriRavennaOro are a precious occasion to explore the multiple aesthetic and significant suggestions that the monumental and mosaic heritage of early Christian and Byzantine age in Ravenna have offered and still offer, within the boundaries of traditional techniques and beyond, thus re-inventing the codes of mosaic.
