A mainly paved trail to get to the places where Ravenna defended itself from the Lombards.

The first turning you must take as soon as you ride out of the city is Via Argine destro Montone. Then, a 85-km-long trail awaits you for a journey in the local history, 1500 years back in time.

A loop trail leading to Russi, Bagnacavallo and Alfonsine and then going back to Ravenna partly along the Senio river.

A fascinating journey in history.

The history of Russi, with archaeological excavations dating back more than 2000 years ago. Of Bagnacavallo, once called Castrum Tiberiacum, founded in 756 AD to defend the territories of the Byzantine Empire from the assaults of the Lombards. And of Alfonsine, which is named after the local lord who first started the reclamation of these lands.

The trail goes on towards Sant’Alberto, where you will be amazed by the unspoilt beauty of the Peninsula of Boscoforte, a range of dunes in the southern area of the Valleys of Comacchio.

At this point, between the charm of history and the wonder of nature, you will start heading back towards the end of the itinerary in Ravenna.
