After years of waiting and extensive restoration works, the MAR – Ravenna Art Museum reopens six halls with a new exhibition dedicated to the 17th century and contemporary art.
The aim of this new set-up is to enhance the cultural identity of the museum through the combination between local historical roots and the famous works of art of the permanent collection.
The new exhibition is divided into two parts. The first part represents the intense cultural, political and economical relationships between the area of the Emilia-Romagna region, the Veneto region and Tuscany in the 17th century, under the influence of the Papal State.
The second part opens instead with the sinuous sculpture or Emilio Greco, and retraces the main stages of Italian art, from the postwar period to the 1980s, with a focus on the most experimental art currents and the artistic trends that made themselves known in the most important cultural institutions.
The exhibition thus goes from Francesco Zaganelli’s ancient and large paintings, to Carlo Ciussi geometric works and Giulio Turcaton’s informal abstractionism.
The new set-up of the MAR is a very special occasion to visit not only the new exhibition, but also the collection of modern and contemporary mosaics that will soon be set up on the occasion of the Biennial of Contemporary Mosaic.
