The European Maritime Day (EMD) is celebrated around May 20th every year. The event highlights the key role of oceans and seas in the everyday life of communities in order to encourage a better management of waters and coastal areas and to emphasize the great variety and importance of activities and industries related to them. The event was designed in 2008 by the European Council, the European Parliament and the European Commission as part of the integrated maritime policy launched in 2007. Various events take place on this day, as an annual conference of the interested parties co-organised by the European Commission. In 2022, this important exchange meeting will take place in Ravenna – a confirmation of the European dimension of the port and the coastal area of the city.
